The City of Gainesville, Florida
is utilizing bold and edgy marketing as part of a
comprehensive, nontraditional program to prevent crime in
its hospitality zones. Primarily targeted at college age
individuals, a typically difficult demographic to impact
behaviorally, ‘eye-catching’ techniques include talking
urinals as well as messages on ID wristbands and billboards.
This approach is one of many outcomes generated by a
collaborative partnership among the police department, local
universities’ student governments, alcohol and substance
abuse coalitions, hospitality stakeholders and community
organizations, in an effort to enhance district safety
through reduction of DUIs, underage drinking and
intoxication. |
