Using Technology to Solve Alcohol-Related Problems in the Community

Tuesday

Listen to Archive

Despite the prevalence of social norm messages to drink alcohol responsibly, they do not always reach their targeted audience; further, cities have only limited resources to address the consequences of irresponsible use of alcohol and intoxication.

So what can communities do? This presentation will focus on the use of readily available data sources and simple geographic information system (GIS) technology to create thoughtful, manageable and effective interventions into our communities. Such interventions can achieve real changes in community understanding of alcohol-related problems and individual behavioral changes among those that drink and those that facilitate alcohol consumption.
